Marcus, Bob and Dan (Bob's girlfriend) arrived on Friday in Malta. The
first thing that happened was that Bob and Dan's bags missed the flight
after a very tight connection in Zurich. So they arrived late that same
evening.
We were staying at the Pergola Club Hotel, perched on a cliff overlooking
the town of Mellieha, which has a very imposing Church overlooking the
sea. We had dinner in tourist Trattoria, where everything was cooked for
English pensioners, which meant no salt, no spices, just boredom.
We were ready to go home but we figured it couldn't be this bad all over
Malta. Breakfast at the hotel next morning proved us wrong - baked beans,
bacon and something that must have been scrambled eggs in an earlier life,
were served up with as much enthusiasm as a mosquito has for the state
of the stock market at the close of Friday trading!
